Pull of Memory

When the weather is contrary, the studio is a refuge.  Such grey days with hardly a glimmer of a patch of blue sky and the glow of the sun...but here it appears in the abstract.
My Maine vacation also came in evidence in this new fresh painitng....the pull of the memory.  Both paintings small, 12x12 and 11x14 on canvas and board.  2 panels prepared for the postponed Maine coast time, now finding their excitement in my studio.  Sometimes I wonder why I am painting and then I lose myself in my paints and feel so much more satisfied when I come back to surface after the dive into the painting.  It is a need.

My animal card drawn at ecstatic dance tonight was the deer.  "Deer teaches us to use the power of gentleness to touch the hearts and minds of wounded beings who are trying to keep us from Sacred Mountain."  Speaks to me...Be well gentle readers.

I too sometimes wonder why I keep painting--- as the canvasses pile up outside my studio in the hallway. But I keep painting, and as you said, it is a need. There is also a need for galleries and shows so the paintings find a home, even if temporary! With so many galleries in our area closing, I feel blessed to have one, and several out of the area. I am enjoying your blog, AND SEEING YOUR WORK, a lot!

Thank you, Debbie, for coming here and seeing my work. It has been important to me to keep up with painting and this blog to expose my art to whomever passes by. I see you have work at Long River; I have silk scarves there too.

Hello Maggie...
Happy Easter... not sure if thats something you celebrate... here its a five day break so people celebrate easter for that reason for the chocolate bunnies or in more particular and traditional ways of course.
Just enjoyed seeing new work for 2011 at your website...
'the truth lies somewhere in the middle' - great title and I very much enjoyed this work... House on the hill too was a favourite!
The pull of memory ... and the trip to maine... sounds wonderful Maggie...
Keep warm...I can imagine you holed up in the studio trying to keep warm. Enjoy!

Sophie, Sophie, yes, happy Easter, so late this year as the spring is late. A celebration of rebirth, watching all the plant babies come up for air and light. I'll be visiting a friend and going to a classical concert exploring the 7 last words of Christ. Life and death. Glad you so enjoyed my work.
