Finding Form

Finding Form
Originally uploaded by colormuse

A rainy day...all my ad work was finished, and I didn't feel like sewing. I went to my studio with day energy still in my bones and I put on music and danced. It felt really good. I opened the back door and put up the blinds. I laid out fabrics for cutting. Some I decided not to cut, like this one.  I think it makes an interesting hanging...what are your thoughts?

But the most exciting piece was this drawing, oil pastel on gessoed paper, 20x32, then turpentine added....my own process and I like doing this experiment. Besides it helps me use up my oil pastels and I have more of them than oil paint!

The hanging is very dramatic as it is, Maggie, with its window-like forms. And I really like the energy of the drawing, and its composition: vertical forms pushed to the right by the open shape, and the lines making a rectangle at the top. Very satisfying!

Ah! Satisfying, thank you, Altoon! I like how you put your comment. Always appreciate what you have to say! Thanks for your visit.

Maggie, I always find your forms, and the way they feel as though they belong together, fresh. They carry that energy of dancing in the studio.

And yes, that fabric is beautiful as a hanging.

I agree the silk fabric hanging is perfect...strong yet delicate quality.
Your process with oil pastel has a free movement...the dancing shows!

hello San, thanks for the comment of finding the forms fresh, carrying the energy of dance. That is what I hope for!

Hi Mary Ann, somehow I am freer with my medium when it is of little cost to me, burden is lifted. Thanks for support on the crepe hanging. I'll sew up the casings on the top and bottom and call it finished. Yes, dancing is freeing too!
