Merry Christmas from my home to yours!

Merry Christmas from my home to yours!

So busy! Some days I feel like I am pushing through molasses, but the Holy daze is coming for me and I have my pile of books piled and waiting. The roast is in the oven looking so beautiful with its vegetable friends. Bruce is a happy cook these days and I am happy to let him take that on. I have my Mama's nut bread recipe out to make. I remember cracking and shelling the nuts on Christmas eve. It was one of the childhood chores given to keep us busy. We had fun with our tasks and felt a vital part of holiday preparations. Jonah will come in from work too late to crack nuts, but I cheated and bought them shelled...pecans in honor of my Uncle Giles who loved them best. Holidays are about family and my family crowds around me today even though many of them have moved beyond eating. Mama is on soft foods, her dentures having given her difficulty. I did get her to say Merry Christmas, but she has no memory of what Christmas is anymore. Amazing witnessing the death of a very fine mind, but happiness still is in her voice. She was always good on the phone to be friendly and uplifted even if she had just been severely reprimanding her children. Oh my, wandering off in my thinking and that nut bread still waits to be made...maybe a date pudding also. Wish you all could visit for dinner, but hope you have something fine going on in your home tonight also.

Many blessings for peace and joy in your holidays as we wind to the end of this year, contemplating 2010 and preparing for 2011. May it be an even better year, inspiring and satisfying for you all. Thanks for being here with me now.

It sounds like you had a wonderful Christmas, Maggie. The cooking, the wrapping...it's exhausting but worth every minute! Rest up :) xo
