Wrapping up the year, duties, and the presents

busy time....the holidaze.  Keeping galleries stocked, taking on more sales slots at Artisans Hand, and packing up the scarves sold on etsy...whew!  Thankfully the roads remain clear and we are not called into shoveling mode just yet.  I hosted  Art Group in my studio this week and showed them the cards I've been making.  We passed them around then it was requested that we lay them all out.  My artist friends were enthusiastic about them, so I said they could each select their favorite...hard decision but they all picked.  A new member chose the one above asking me again if I really meant to let her have her choice.  Personally it was a favorite, but I made them to let them be seasonal cards...to move on.  This way I didn't have to know their addresses and put stamps on them, but I am getting some in the mail.

The one above is going to my sister in AZ...wish I had enclosed it in the box I sent off today, bit it didn't come to hand when I was packing up.  Something more for tomorrow.  They really are better seen with changing light as there is sparkle and irridescence that you just can't see in these stills.
This on appeals to me because I usually don't do such contrast and I'm pleased to see that I can.
The cards are done with ripping apart large paintings into 4x5 sections.  I was challenged by the art friends to make larger portions...here is a painting untorn...oh, but what lovely sections it would make.
Teal Appeal is the scarf I just posted to etsy tonight to keep my online store still appealing.
This stone gem, large square, will be added tomorrow.  Just can't do it all today.

It's my son Ezra's birthday today.  He's in CA now, turned 35! and will celebrate here with us in a few days.  He's bringing his 2 cats to live in VT for a while, one with us here, and one with his brother while he goes off to Edinborough, then Cameroon to work and then back to Edinborough to live.  Changes all the time.  I hope I figure out how to get to Edinborough while he's there.....Meanwhile I'll be seeing Nutcracker tomorrow night with my son Jonah performing in it, can't believe I've never seen it.

Hope you are all finding some sparkle in your days, wrapping those special gifts, and being with loved ones in this next week.  These dark days need love and laughter to brighten them.  Soon it will be Solstice and light will expand with each day once again.

Maggie, are these lovely card done on paper or did you paint on silk and then cut them and paste onto the stock cards....they are beautiful.

Karin, cards are painted with acrylic and oil pastels on rough watercolor paper which has aged to easy ripability. Glitter and irridescent paint too. On some I began with a deep red orange house paint...it's play for me...letting go. Thanks for your interest.

Many times the face is the canvas in which we paint our emotions and we ourselves are the most abstract painting of all. All of us paint reflections, it is just the medium that changes...

Maggie,

I enjoyed your site. I would probably buy every single one of your scarfs if I could since I can't seem to make up my mind which one I like best. So fa,r the longest one and the charcoal/pumpkin scarf are my fav. This is new to me so it took me a little while to get used to it and figure out where to post. I am still not very clear on "Blog" or what that means or does but I will learn. Thanks for the invite...

Maria, so good to have your words again. My computer was acting up and the boys were here until today...making Christmas happen. Quiet now and my mind is coming back into abstract. Whew!
