River Stones

For me the wonderful thing about having a show coming is the energy which comes forth to make paintings and finish work.  I feel charged!  Every day I eagerly go to the studio, sometimes even in the morning, as I am not painting silks, or weaving, and ad making is minimal, so I am painting like it is my work and I love it!

Today we had "work" at home. The shed door had sunk below the level of the deck with the shifting ground of springtime.  My summer tires, for which I have the appointment in this next week to change the winter tires, were in the back of the shed.  Bruce figured the door had to be removed and once the door was off, the trash/recycling needed to be dealt with.  Then the nest made by rodents!  Yikes!  needed to be cleaned up.  Many tasks, much throw aways, washing and hosing off...then gardening.  But the day was lovely and it was only 4 when we put the dinner to bake and I could take off to the studio to paint!  Yes!

This painting was begun in 2006, a very fine beginning, which was hard to cover up, but I finally did and feel this painting has much more depth and meaning than the "beginning".  40x30.  The painting I worked on today changed from the last photo enough that I can't post it yet.  I didn't take the camera today.  I have waxed in a silk scarf square into the painting and it is such a revelation to me as I work on it....tomorrow or Tuesday.

Life can be such a treat!  I hope life is good for all of you who pass through here...and thanks for coming by.

Self portrait? Lovely.

Self portrait? Maybe all paintings are self portraits....I see what you might mean in this small size, but piece is larger than most self portraits. Thanks for coming by, Leslie.

Love the "veiled" feeling here. Does that make sense? Also the subtlety of the colors towards the middle, the way the more vibrant ones almost creep out of that center. A strikingly original composition, Maggie.

Maybe this is the Spirit of River. Maybe not. :)

San, what a nice comment! Love the "veiled" feeling you bring up, layers of thin oils. Just named another "Veils of Memory". Spirit of River is also good suggestion. Thank you for the visit.

These recent pieces have lovely line work and subtle colors...wonderful to feel 'charged'! How many pieces do you need for your show?

Thanks Mary Ann, Jeane, and Neva. Glad to hear such fine comments on this piece. At breakfast out today a friend remembered how much she liked the white painting...which is the painting under this one never to be seen again. I think I do have about 30 pieces for the show...hopefully the new landscape will come together tomorrow. I'll take my camera to the studio.

hello Lian, lovely comment, thanks. I will try to remember the blessings of bear rather than the fear that they invade our settlement when we aren't there. Yes, I know they were there before us. Hope they are not eating the false hellevore!
Hope you can stop in to see the painting while they hang in City Center through May.
