Wild Land and Tracks
A Sunday trip to Lowell to check out the apple scions planted and to plan the location for the yurt. It was a beautiful day, blue skies, and warming which is good as this land sits just a few miles south of the Canadian border, with Jay Peak in the view. This is the land from the side road, fir tree line at main road (dirt).
here are the apple scions, 9 trees with stakes holding the chicken wire to ward off the deer...wet field still. We had been told by the neighbors that a mama bear and her 2 cubs lived on this land...oh my! How do we ward off bear?
Trout lilies have opened and spring beauties, but what are all the large green leaves called and can they be eaten or used medicinally...they are in such abundance.
As we were walking we saw the tracks! Bruce spotted the small ones and I saw the LARGE one. BEAR! And very near the tent we had just put up!
Birches making patterns, rocks with coats of moss, and orange budding in the blue sky overhead were all sights to behold, but the bear tracks seem to fill our imaginations the most!
